KINDERGARTEN English Homeroom Teachers

Kunshan, China and Taipei, Taiwan

Fall 2015

Tsai Hsing School is an esteemed institution with a rich history in Taipei and new kindergarten branches in Kunshan, China, that will open in the fall of 2015.  Our English program combines content-based instruction, student-centered activities and traditional methods to promote academic and real-world usage of the English language.

We are hiring for the following positions for the fall of 2015:

1. Kindergarten/Pre-K English homeroom teachers in Kunshan, China

(US/Canada/TESOL/TEFL certification and 2 years teaching experience required)

2. Kindergarten/Pre-K English homeroom teachers in Taipei, Taiwan

(US/Canada state credential required)

Position #1

Kunshan, China - Kindergarten/Pre-K English teacher 

Compensation

  1. Monthly salary of $2500 for US/Canada certified teachers. One year contracts with $5000 cash bonus upon completion of second consecutive year.
  2. Housing or equivalent stipend provided. 
  3. 1 round trip airline ticket per year of service not to exceed $1500 US per ticket.

Duties

  1. Approximately 35 half-periods per week and on campus daily for entirety of school day. Time while on campus but not teaching should be spent in the classroom so as to be available for informal discussions with students.  Submit lesson plans when requested.
  2. Attend all required meetings during school hours and weekend commitments such as teacher parent meetings and other special events.  
  3. Correct all applicable student work in a timely manner, record oral readings for periodical exams.
  4. Assist in applicable English language events and competitions during school day.
  5. Adhere to school-determined lesson pace of special content relevant to periodical exams.

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Must be able to provide access to a demo lesson in Shanghai, Taipei or Los Angeles or an electronic copy of a 5+ minute demo lesson video.
  2. Must be able to interview over video teleconferencing or in Shanghai, Taipei or Los Angeles.
  3. Must be able to provide at least 3 professional references.
  4. No knowledge of Mandarin is necessary.

Miscellaneous

  1. Health insurance provided by school.
  2. School will assist with work visa application.

Calendar

  1. Commitment of 1 year term beginning in August 2015 until July 31, 2016 (two consecutive years receive cash bonus).
  2. Approximately 3 weeks paid vacation (over Chinese New Year break)*.
  3. Paid time off for local holidays and days between semesters*.

*Actual time off depends on Education Bureau calendar for that year.  For less than one week of Chinese New Year break, teachers will be required to be on campus in preparation for the new semester.

Position #2

Taipei, Taiwan - Kindergarten/Pre-K English teacher

Compensation

  1. Average monthly salary of $2500 for US/Canada certified teachers with less than three years of relevant US classroom experience as a lead teacher. Average monthly salaries of more than $2500 may be available for highly qualified candidates.

  2. As an incentive to complete the 2-year contract, 15% of the monthly wage will be set aside each pay period before taxes and put into an escrow account (the "Escrow payment").  The Escrow payment will be paid in full once the 2-year contract is completed.  If the teacher chooses to leave before the two-year period or if the school does not renew the teacher's contract due to poor performance and thus the contract is terminated, the Escrow payment will not be paid.

  3. Housing or equivalent stipend provided.

  4. 1 round trip airline ticket per year of service not to exceed $1500 US per ticket.

Duties

  1. Approximately 25 teaching periods (elementary) or 35 half-periods (kindergarten) per week and on campus daily for entirety of school day (7:50am to 4pm). Time while on campus but not teaching should be spent in the classroom so as to be available for informal discussions with students.  Submit lesson plans when requested.

  2. Attend all required meetings during school hours and weekend commitments such as teacher parent meetings and other special events.  

  3. Correct all applicable student work in a timely manner, record oral readings as necessary.

  4. Assist in applicable English language events.

  5. Adhere to school-determined lesson pace where applicable.

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Must be able to provide evidence of university diploma and US state teaching certification for elementary school multiple subjects or similar. CANDIDATES WITHOUT CERTIFICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

  2. Must be able to provide access to a demo lesson in Los Angeles or Taipei or an electronic copy of a 5+ minute demo lesson video.

  3. Must be able to interview in Downtown LA, Taipei or over teleconferencing.

  4. Must be able to provide at least 3 professional references.

  5. No knowledge of Mandarin is necessary.

Miscellaneous

  1. Labor insurance and health insurance provided by school.

  2. School will manage work permit and alien resident certificate (ARC), including renewal after first year of service. ARC and applicable work permit for trailing spouse or family members may be managed by the school but paid for by the teacher.

  3. Offspring of teachers are eligible for tuition assistance.  Full tuition must be paid for one school year; after this, a first child receives full tuition credit and all additional children receive half tuition assistance.

Calendar

  1. Commitment of 2 year-long terms are from approx. August 15, 2015 to June 30, 2016 and from August 15, 2016 to June 30, 2017.

  2. Up to six weeks of unpaid leave during summer break. Some teachers will be invited to teach summer school; separate arrangements will be made with those teachers.

  3. Approximately 3 weeks paid vacation (over Chinese New Year break)*
